“We were forced to pull over to the side of the road, the driver was pulled out of the car, several of these men sat next to us and started beating us. They tilted us so that our heads were below the knees, at the same moment, as we later understood, they stabbed Sasha in the leg with a knife, and they hit me very hard on the neck, ”she said. She added that there were 10-15 people in the group of attackers.
The attackers tried to leave in a taxi car, but could not, because the car’s engine had stalled. The attackers dragged Elena Milashina and Alexander Nemov out of the car, took them to a ravine and began to beat them. According to her, they also used polypropylene sticks. Ms. Milashina was demanded to give up the password to her phone and computer and threatened to cut off the finger on her right hand in order to unlock the phone.
“But I have an old iPhone, and in this situation he rebelled and stopped responding to the poke of his finger. And so, apparently, they changed their mind about cutting their fingers, ”said Elena Milashina. She added that she tried to explain that she could not fulfill the requirement because she had “long passwords, not digital” and she remembers them “not with her head, but with her hands.” However, the attackers did not believe her.
After the attackers doused Elena Milashina, shaved her head and doused her with brilliant green. “At some point, they apparently already had time to run out. They put Sasha and me down, forced us to count to a hundred and left. Apparently, they just went to report to someone that they took away the equipment, but did not receive the passwords from my iPhone and from Sasha’s phone, ”she said.
However, the attackers returned again and beat the journalist and the lawyer again. After that, they nevertheless left, taking all the equipment with them, but left money and bank cards. “Climbed out of this ravine. This taxi driver has already come up, who, apparently, was waiting for them to leave so that he could pick up his car. And he took us to the hospital,” added Elena Milashina.
On the morning of July 4, Elena Milashina and Alexander Nemov arrived in Grozny for the announcement of the verdict to Zarema Musaeva, the wife of the former judge of the Supreme Court of the republic, Saydi Yangulbaev. On the way from the airport, they were attacked by unknown persons. She has diagnosed closed craniocerebral injury, multiple fractures of the hands, bruises of soft tissues, he has multiple hematomas and bruises. Now they are in a Moscow hospital. The Investigation Department of the Investigative Committee of Russia (Investigative Committee of the Russian Federation) for Chechnya opened a criminal case on the fact of the attack under articles on the intentional infliction of light and medium bodily harm (part 2 of article 115, part 2 of article 112 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation).
