The preferences of young people when choosing apartments are revealed

The most significant characteristics of housing for zoomers – Russians born from 1997 to 2012 – were comfortable infrastructure and smart technologies. For moms and dads of the younger generation, by the way, the square footage of the apartment and its location have always been more important. However, priorities change.

Experts from the Strana Development company surveyed young apartment buyers and found out what features, in their opinion, an ideal home should have.

Buyers under the age of 35 most often (80%) opt for studios, one-room lots and Euro-format options. The reason is the lack of money to buy a full-fledged home.

Apart from the lack of finance, the main thing when choosing real estate is a rich infrastructure. This was stated by 33% of respondents. For young buyers, it is important to have cafes and shops close to home, space for relaxation, work, or meeting with friends. A comfortable lobby with a coffee shop or a secluded co-working space is considered by modern youth as an undeniable advantage of a residential complex.

27% identified technologies and innovations as a priority when choosing future housing: “smart home”, mobile applications with the ability to video monitor their apartment online, contactless access to the territory of a residential complex or to entrances.

The presence of sports areas and places for active recreation is important for 20% of young buyers who took part in the survey. Young people prefer residential complexes located within walking distance of parks, where there are jogging and cycling paths, and in winter – ski trails.

Only 14% of respondents put convenient parking and a sufficient number of parking spaces on site as a priority. This is due to the fact that more and more young people are abandoning their personal cars in favor of carsharing or alternative methods of transportation in the city, such as electric scooters.

Other important advantages are unique architecture, original landscape design of the yard, observation decks or unusual areas for recreation and picnics on the territory of the complex (6%).
