Norwegian skiers have accused three-time Olympic champion Alexander Bolshunov of lying.
Bolshunov said in the spring that he received a message from an athlete from the Norwegian national team, Even Northug, which said: “come to us, we miss you.”
However, the Norwegian skiers denied these claims and said that none of them sent such a message.
Northug said he did not send such a message and doubts that anyone on his team did. He also stated that “This could be one way to put some pressure on those involved in the current situation.”
2018 Olympic champion Diedrik Tønseth supported Northug’s words, claiming that he did not understand who could send such a message.
The issue of the participation of Russian athletes in international competitions is not mentioned in the final releases of the meetings of the committees of the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS), which were held in September. In May, the FIS council extended the suspension of Russian and Belarusian athletes until further notice, despite recommendations from the International Olympic Committee (IOC).
