Norwegian sports authorities fear Olympic ban

Sports authorities in Norway believe that the World Anti-Doping Agency (WADA) may impose sanctions on Norwegian sport for non-compliance with obligations under the international anti-doping code. The reason is that, under Norwegian law, underage athletes are warned in advance through their parents about doping testing.
“The fact that Norway could lose the right to organize international competitions is one of the first sanctions that could be implemented. The fact that Norwegian athletes may be denied participation in the Olympic and Paralympic Games is still in the future, ”said Mr. Os NRK (quoted by TASS).
According to him, WADA sanctions may also include fines and deprivation of the right to hold international competitions in the country. The Norwegian Anti-Doping Committee may lose its status.
Under the terms of the said law, over the past two years, not a single underage athlete has been tested without prior warning about it. This scheme allows you to bypass the test, refusing to take doping a few days before it. Adult athletes are tested without warning.
The President of the Norwegian Olympic Committee (NIF) Berit Kjell and the Chairman of the Board of the country’s Anti-Doping Agency Thorhild Widvi appealed to the authorities of the country with a request to urgently change the controversial law. The head of the Norwegian anti-doping service, Anders Solheim, also called for its abolition.
“We think this is a very important issue. There should not be young people in competitions who can pump themselves up with doping as much as they want, ”RIA Novosti quotes him as saying.
At the last Winter Olympics in Beijing, Norway took first place in the overall medal standings – she had 16 gold, 8 silver, 13 bronze medals.
