Norwegian intelligence: Russian ships put to sea with nuclear weapons

According to information published in the annual intelligence report, ships of the Northern Fleet used to go to sea with tactical nuclear weapons on board during the Soviet Union. At the same time, such cases have not been known since the Cold War.
Norwegian intelligence officers added that at the moment for Russia “the importance of nuclear weapons has significantly increased.” This happened, in particular, after the start of a special military operation on the territory of Ukraine.
“The central part of the nuclear potential is located on surface ships and submarines of the Northern Fleet,” the Norwegian Intelligence Service noted.
The department clarified that these weapons pose a particular threat in the options for special operations in which the countries of the North Atlantic Alliance may participate.
