Norwegian chess player Carlsen refused to participate in the Candidates Tournament

Former holder of the world chess crown, Norwegian Magnus Carlsen, told chess.com that he does not intend to participate in the Candidates Tournament. The competition is scheduled for April 2024 in Toronto. According to the chess player, participation in the tournament will not bring him pleasure.
“I will not participate in the Candidates Tournament. Do not worry about it! I would say that the main reason is that I don’t enjoy it,” said the grandmaster.
Previously the International Chess Federation (FIDE) reported that the Norwegian was among the participants in the competition. Also included in the list are Fabiano Caruana and Hikaru Nakamura from the United States, Vidit Santosh Gujrati, Gukesh Dommaraju and Rameshbabu Pragnanandha from India, Alireza Firouzja from France and Ian Nepomniachtchi from Russia.
Magnus Carlsen became world chess champion in 2013. Afterwards he defended his title three times. In 2022, the Norwegian chess player refused to play the second game with Russian grandmaster Ian Nepomniachtchi and thereby lost his title.
