Norway, following the example of the Finnish authorities, is ready to close the border with Russia, stopping the activities of the checkpoint, said Prime Minister of the Kingdom Jonas Gahr Støre. His words are quoted by RT.
Speaking at a press conference, the Prime Minister clarified that he was referring to the Storskog checkpoint on the border with the Murmansk region.
The head of the Cabinet of Ministers said that the Norwegian authorities are “closely monitoring the situation” in both Finland and Estonia. According to him, the border with Russia will be closed if necessary.
Earlier, the Finnish authorities officially announced the closure of almost all checkpoints on the border with the Russian Federation. Local media reported about the preparation of such a decision, citing sources.
As stated by the Finnish government, checkpoints on the eastern border will stop operating, except for the northernmost one – Raia-Jooseppi. The checkpoint is scheduled to close on the night of November 25.
