The Turkish Foreign Ministry said that the Norwegian authorities banned the action to desecrate the Koran after calling their ambassador.
Norwegian Ambassador to Ankara Erling Skonsberg, as previously reported, was summoned to the Turkish Foreign Ministry. The Norwegian diplomat was protested in connection with the action to burn the Koran, which was planned in his country on February 3. “After that, they canceled the permit for the rally,” Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu said at an event in Ankara.
Similar actions took place earlier in Sweden and Denmark. In response, Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan said that Sweden, unlike Finland, should no longer wait for favors from the Turkish side on the issue of joining NATO.
