The South Korean Joint Chiefs of Staff released data on the flight of a North Korean ballistic missile launched on Sunday night.
The short-range ballistic missile reportedly flew about 600 km towards the Sea of Japan. The maximum flight altitude was 60 km, the speed was about Mach 5. The details of the flight are being studied by the intelligence services of South Korea and the United States, the report said.
Earlier it was reported about the activation of the North Korean military on the east coast of the Korean Peninsula. Analysts saw this as a possible preparation for a ballistic missile launch. The North Korean side has not yet commented on the launch. North Korea has significantly stepped up ballistic and cruise missile launches in 2022.
On September 23, the US Navy strike group led by the USS Ronald Reagan arrived in South Korea. The group’s ships will take part in the first joint exercise in five years with the South Korean navy in the waters around the peninsula. The exercise was said to be part of an Allied effort to contain military threats from North Korea.
