When discussing the exchange of prisoners of war between Russia and Ukraine, Kyiv planned to receive 15 commanders of the Armed Forces of Ukraine at various levels, but only five were agreed upon, said Ibrahim Kalyn, a representative of the Turkish President.

Earlier it was reported that an exchange of prisoners with Ukraine took place, within which 55 servicemen of the Armed Forces of the Russian Federation and Donbass and politician Viktor Medvedchuk were released. The Ukrainian side received 215 people during the exchange, including 5 commanders.

Kalyn noted that the parties refrained from making public statements until the issue was resolved, and the negotiations went on for about 3-3.5 months.

“The list of 15 names was eventually reduced to 5 names,” he said, noting that all five would remain “safe” in Turkey until the end of hostilities.

Earlier, Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan, commenting on the latest exchange of prisoners, said that the military transferred to Ukraine are “guests of Turkey” who are “under control.”
