Military historian Yevgeny Norin admitted that the appointment of Chief of the General Staff Valery Gerasimov as commander of the Joint Group of Forces in the zone of the special military operation and other reshuffles are associated with a possible offensive from a new direction.
“I admit that Surovikin has been appointed to command an already existing front,” Norin said in interview NSN.
He added that some new person will be engaged in a new direction.
As for Gerasimov, he, according to the expert, will coordinate their work.
“Judging by the current personnel changes, this option is quite possible,” Norin summed up.
Recall that Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu appointed the Commander-in-Chief of the Aerospace Forces, General of the Army Sergei Surovikin, who previously commanded the United Group of Forces, as well as the Commander-in-Chief of the Ground Forces, General of the Army Oleg Salyukov, and Deputy Chief of the General Staff of the Russian Armed Forces, Colonel General Alexei Kim, as Gerasimov’s deputies.
