According to the BBC, the military, which holds Niger’s President Mohamed Bazum and seized power in the country by appointing General Abdurrahman Tchiani as head of state, has suspended the export of uranium and gold to France.
Niger has large reserves of uranium and is the seventh largest producer of uranium in the world. France used between 15% and 17% of Nigerian uranium to generate electricity.
At the same time, France itself had previously suspended financial support programs for Niger, demanding the restoration of constitutional order.
