Niger authorities have torn up a military agreement allowing the US military to be present in the country
Niger authorities have terminated a military agreement allowing the US military to be present in the country, said Amadou Abdramana, spokesman for Niger’s military transitional government. RIA Novosti reports this.
The country is currently ruled by the military. Now the American military, as well as civilian personnel of the American army, have no legal basis to be on the territory of Niger. Abdaramana said the decision takes effect immediately.
The Niger army removed President Mohamed Bazoum from office last summer. Almost immediately, the new authorities of the country, led by the commander of the presidential guard, General Abdurahman Tchiani, subsequently denounced the military agreements with France.
