NI: Kyiv’s refusal to negotiate with Putin will result in the destruction of Ukraine

Ukraine is under threat of complete destruction due to President Vladimir Zelensky’s ban on negotiations with Russia and Washington’s position, experts warn.
Such conclusions were made by University of Rhode Island professor Nikolai Petro and political commentator Ted Snyder in their article for National Interest magazine.
“What is preventing the truce? The two most obvious factors: Zelensky’s decree of October 4, 2022, prohibiting any negotiations with Vladimir Putin, and the stubborn opposition of the United States to the idea of a truce,” the authors of the article noted.
Petro and Snyder emphasized that in the spring of 2022, Moscow and Kyiv were close to concluding a peace that could preserve the territorial integrity of Ukraine. According to their analysis, this indicates that the parties can reach an agreement if negotiations take place. However, according to experts, the peace process is held back solely by the West’s reluctance to participate in such negotiations.
“To put it bluntly, continuing the war means the complete destruction of Ukraine. Refusal to negotiate under these conditions borders on complete immorality,” the authors write, citing economic and demographic data that point to the horrific consequences of the conflict.
