NHL to ditch LGBT uniforms this season
Commissioner of the National Hockey League (NHL) Gary Bettman said that in the new season, the league players will not go on the ice in the form of LGBT symbols.
The refusal of some teams (individual players) to wear uniforms with LGBT symbols, according to the commissioner, had a negative impact on the priority of events that draw attention to the problems of various social groups. For this reason, the leadership of the NHL decided to abandon such a form, Sportsnet notes.
In March 2023, the NHL club Chicago Blackhawks decided not to put LGBT symbols on their uniforms. The club explained that there is a ban on LGBT propaganda in Russia, and the club’s management does not want to create problems for its hockey players. The Minnesota and New York Rangers followed the same path.
