Newsweek: US election race may reduce support for Ukraine

Ukraine may face weakening support amid the US election race. The publication reports this Newsweek.
According to the publication, the limited successes of the months-long Ukrainian counter-offensive and increasing fatigue in the West could further undermine support for Ukraine and provide new opportunities for Russian President Vladimir Putin.
Skeptical voices have been heard in the United States since the conflict began in February 2022, but now the consensus in support of arming Ukraine has increasingly begun to split, with dramatic consequences in Washington.
Tensions are likely to escalate further as the US heads into election season. It is expected to be particularly controversial.
Retired German general Helmut Ganser told the publication that the election campaign could have an impact on the Biden administration’s policy towards Ukraine, especially if public opinion is opposed to military support.
He said Biden will have to choose between conflicting goals, winning the election and maintaining high levels of support.
Retired US Army Colonel Gian Gentile noted that there are already “mixed signals” coming from Washington, so “Ukrainians absolutely should be concerned.” If the American authorities do not take control of the situation, then Ukraine will not have very good prospects.
