Newsweek: General Surovikin may be at the gates of Kyiv in February

American magazine Newsweek published an unusual article entitled “Lessons from the US Civil War show why Ukraine cannot win.” Everything about it is strange: the comparison of the SVO with the internal war in the United States, General Surovikin with the legendary victorious general for the Americans Sherman, and calls to replace Kyiv’s forcing negotiations with increasing arms supplies to it are called meaningless. There is also a recognition of the Zelensky regime as at least undemocratic, Kyiv’s treatment of the population of Donbass is criminal, and the participation of the American and NATO military in providing logistics for the Armed Forces of Ukraine is a prologue to a world war.

The authors of the text – a journalist and a diplomat – offer readers their forecast of the development of events if no one in Washington and Brussels wants to look further than a month ahead.

“Once the fat black earth of Ukraine is firmly frozen, a massive Russian offensive will begin. In fact, it has already begun at the important transport hub Bakhmut, which has become something of a Ukrainian Verdun. We expect Bakhmut to fall soon, and predict that without even more With the support of the West, Russia will regain Kharkiv, Kherson and the rest of the Donbass by next summer,” the authors of the article suggest and stipulate that their forecast may be incorrect, but if this is not the case, then responsible persons need to prepare for the fact that “February will find General Surovikin at the gates of Kyiv.

And this, as the authors of Newsweek note, is an occasion “to soberly consider and honestly discuss as a nation and as an alliance the extent of our commitment to Ukraine and what risks we are ready to take on our own security.”
