Newsweek: Delivery of F-16 fighter jets to Ukraine will require solving three important problems

In light of the West’s intention to supply Ukraine with F-16 fighters, Kiev faces three important tasks that need to be addressed, writes Ellie Cook, a columnist for Newsweek.
Analysts emphasize that before Ukraine can use modern combat aircraft, the following problems must be resolved: determine the duration of training of Ukrainian personnel working with the F-16; create the necessary infrastructure; overcome political obstacles.
Training Ukrainian pilots on new aircraft will take a significant amount of time. Former British pilot Andrew Curtis notes that training even experienced pilots on new technology takes several months, not weeks.
In addition to well-trained personnel, the use of F-16 fighters requires new supply chains, maintenance procedures and infrastructure, including smooth runways. However, these objects can also become attractive targets for enemy strikes.
In addition, the political aspect also plays a role in the issue of military assistance to Ukraine. The delivery of F-16s has significant geopolitical implications and could further escalate the conflict.
Earlier, a representative of the US State Department, Matthew Miller, said that the supply of F-16s to Ukraine is a priority for the United States. Ukrainian F-16 fighter pilots are required to complete four months of training before they can perform limited ground support and bombing missions, according to a former senior NATO officer, Pierre Hanraud.
