The New Zealand government has introduced a new package of sanctions against 48 Russian citizens, as well as one legal entity due to a special operation in Ukraine, informs Foreign Minister Nananiya Mahuta on the official website of the New Zealand government.

“The sanctions build on earlier measures targeting political and military figures in separatist administrations in Ukraine’s breakaway regions of Donetsk and Luhansk. Today’s measures affect 48 officials and one organization,” Makhuta said.

The New Zealand Foreign Minister notes that the sanctions are primarily aimed at “ministers and mayors of the occupied parts of Ukraine who promote the integration of these regions with Russia through economic, cultural and military control.”

In addition, Makhuta noted that the Russian sanctions law passed by the New Zealand Parliament allows for the use of a “wide range of measures”, including a travel ban, an asset freeze, a ban on financial transactions, and a ban on ships and aircraft from entering New Zealand. Six months after the passage of the law, New Zealand imposed sanctions on almost 900 individuals and entities from the Russian Federation, as well as tough trade measures against Russia.

In May, the New Zealand government placed five Russians and three Russian organizations on the sanctions list. Then, the official representative of the Russian Ministry of Defense Igor Konashenkov, the head of the Main Directorate of the General Staff – Deputy Chief of the General Staff of Russia Igor Kostyukov, the editor-in-chief of Krasnaya Zvezda Alexei Pimanov, the co-founder of the NewsFront news portal Mikhail Sinelin and the general director of the All-Russian State Television and Radio Broadcasting Company Oleg Dobrodeev were subject to restrictions. New Zealand also imposed sanctions on the General Center for Special Communications, the Main Center for Special Technologies and the Internet Research Agency. In addition, the sanctions also affected six defense enterprises and 170 members of the Federation Council of the Russian Federation and Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In early June, New Zealand imposed additional sanctions against 44 companies in Russia and Belarus, including Gazprom. At the beginning of August the country announced on the introduction of restrictions against the Russian military-industrial complex and the armed forces of the Russian Federation.
