New Year’s events will be canceled in St. Petersburg, money will be redirected to equip mobilized

Governor of St. Petersburg Alexander Beglov decided not to hold festive events in the city on the occasion of the New Year. The money saved will be spent on the purchase of equipment for citizens mobilized to participate in the SVO in Ukraine. This is reported in Telegram channel city government.
“There will be no concert on Palace Square and Nevsky Prospekt, fireworks, a charity reception in the Tauride Palace,” writes Mr. Beglov in his Telegram channel. Holidays for children decided to leave.
The city is already acquiring some of the equipment for volunteers and mobilized with its own money. As stated in his Telegram channel Vice-Governor Valery Pikalev, seven categories of goods are purchased: berets, sleeping bags, jackets, gloves, personal hygiene products, medicines, and power generators.
Petersburg planned to spend for New Year’s decoration of the city and holidays 600 million rubles. What part of these funds will go to equipment is not yet clear.
