There are practically no tickets left for popular children’s New Year trees during the holidays. In October in Moscow, this segment accounted for about 10% of total sales. At the same time, prices increased by 15% compared to 2022. Such data was provided to Kommersant FM by MTS Entertainment, which manages the MTS Live and Ticketland services. In 2023 in Moscow, the average cost of New Year’s performances for children is about 2.5 thousand rubles. Tickets have risen in price by about 15% year on year.
But in fact, it’s only a few hundred rubles, and parents don’t save on the holiday program, Kommersant FM’s interlocutors explain. Although industry representatives note that it is incorrect to compare demand this year with the indicators of 2022, says Evgeny Safronov, editor-in-chief of the InterMedia news agency:
“2022 was the year the special operation began, which led to psychological problems, citizens were very worried, and the planned market recovery did not happen. Now people have calmed down a little and started doing what they should do – giving birth and raising children.”
There are dozens of performances, Christmas tales and New Year trees on ticket sales services. The first performances will begin in mid-December, and there are practically no places left for the most popular dates – before and after the New Year. Market players note that Russians are no longer afraid to buy tickets in advance, says PR Director of MTS Entertainment Liliya Galyautdinova:
“Tickets for events are starting to be purchased in advance. There is a trend towards more comfortable and long-term planning of leisure time, this can be seen in children’s Christmas trees and theaters. For the September performances of the Vakhtangov Theater, for example, in August and July it was almost impossible to buy tickets. The demand for entertainment is not falling.”
In 2023, orders for the house of Father Frost and the Snow Maiden are traditionally in demand. According to information on specialized websites, prices for the service naturally increase closer to the New Year. If from December 1 to December 20, artists can be invited for an average of 6 thousand rubles, then on a holiday night the cost increases to approximately 20 thousand rubles. As Kommersant FM’s interlocutors note, the price of good actors reaches 50 thousand rubles.
In many ways, such prices are explained by the shortage of Santa Clauses, says Nikolai Andreev, owner and general director of the Big Jack event company:
“This service is popular every year. We see that in 2023 it will also be in maximum demand. There is even an increase in demand over supply. We also connect this with the fact that Santa Clauses are mostly young actors, and many of them are of military age.
And in general, the creative industry has become smaller in numerical terms over the past year, because many have left somewhere or someone has gone to the front, so in general there are fewer Santa Clauses.”
However, not all Russians plan active leisure time during the New Year holidays. As Izvestia writes with reference to the electronic payment service YuMoney, about 50% of Russians surveyed want to eat, sleep and watch TV during the holidays.
