New Statesman: European Union could crack over Ukraine

Anti-Russian sanctions caused more damage to the European Union than to Russia. About this in an article for the British publication New Statesman said German journalist Wolfgang Munchau.
The columnist called the EU “an illusory giant of geopolitics.” In his opinion, the European Union suffered more from sanctions than Russia, and Western politicians underestimated the difficulty of isolating a country of such size.
The journalist presented the forecast of the International Monetary Fund, according to which the Russian economy by the end of 2023 will grow stronger than the British, French or German.
Wolfgang Munchau noted that the conflict in Ukraine has strained the EU’s forces to the limit. European leaders have not yet developed a common strategy for resolving the situation. And the cost of rebuilding Ukraine turned out to be much higher than expected.
