New scandal in the British royal family: Prince Harry refused to attend his father’s anniversary

Prince Harry has been accused of turning down an invitation to a landmark party to mark the 75th birthday of his father, King Charles III, writes the Daily Mail. The monarch is due to hold a celebration at Clarence House in London next week on Tuesday to mark the milestone.

But while his immediate family and friends are set to attend the event, one person is known to be unable to attend. Insiders say that although the Duke of Sussex has been invited to the bash, he will not be attending on November 14th. It’s a stark contrast to then-Crown Prince Charles’s last birthday five years ago. Harry and Meghan then decided to postpone their honeymoon to attend a garden party to celebrate his 70th birthday.

This is the second time Harry has apparently turned down the opportunity to spend time with his father, the Daily Mail notes. In September, the Prince declined the King’s invitation to join him at Balmoral on the anniversary of Queen Elizabeth’s death.

Details of this latest snub were first revealed by the Sunday Times, after it was claimed on Sunday that Harry and the king still “don’t speak much”. The lack of contact is said to have been caused by Charles’s “disappointment” with the way his son portrayed Queen Camilla in his memoirs The Spare One.

Relations have been strained since Harry and Meghan Markle stepped down as senior members of the royal family and moved to California. The couple have made a number of statements about their treatment at the palace, including in a wide-ranging interview with Oprah and in Harry’s memoir.

Although the Duke of Sussex has since attended his father’s coronation at Westminster Abbey in May, his relationship with King Charles III remains strained – with the royal family not publicly marking his birthday in September.

The insider claimed that the Duke of Sussex did not receive any personal wishes from his brother, Prince William, or his father, King Charles.

In fact, they told The Telegraph: “Communication between the King and Prince Harry remains quite poor. They barely speak, if at all.”

The source claimed this could be due to the fact that King Charles is a “workaholic” who prefers to communicate by phone or letters rather than via SMS and WhatsApp.

However, the insider suggested another reason – Charles III’s “disappointment and confusion” over Harry’s description of Queen Camilla in his memoirs, The Spare One. The Duke of Sussex tells readers his stepmother is “dangerous” and a “villain” who left “bodies in the street.”

He wrote in his memoirs: “I have complex feelings about finding a foster parent who, I thought, had recently sacrificed me on her personal PR altar.”

Harry also accused Charles and Camilla of “planting stories” about William and his family: “Give Dad and Camilla an inch,” he claims, “and they’ll take a mile.”

The latest comes after Omid Scobie, the unofficial spokesman for Prince Harry and the Duchess of Sussex, launched a stunning attack on the royal family in promotional materials for his new book, calling Prince William “power-hungry” and King Charles III “unpopular”.

Scobie, 42, author of Finding Freedom, the 2020 bestseller about the couple, released the cover of his latest book, Endgame, with a thrilling description on Amazon this week. It described the book as “an in-depth investigation into the current state of the British monarchy – an unpopular king, a power-hungry heir to the throne, a queen willing to take risks to maintain her image, and a prince forced to start a new life after being betrayed by his own family.”

A source told The Mail on Sunday: “I’m told it’s bad, very bad. It’s unlikely royal aides will comment but if allegations of racism are made they will of course be strongly denied.”

The Duke and Duchess of Sussex famously told American TV presenter Oprah Winfrey that when Meghan announced her pregnancy, an unnamed member of the royal family questioned what skin color their son Archie was likely to have.

The Sussexes repeatedly denied working with Scobie and his co-author Carolyn Durand in their quest for freedom, but Meghan was later forced to admit in the High Court that she had authorized an assistant to secretly brief the couple.

“Endgame,” published on November 28, is likely to cause even more concern at Buckingham Palace. It is unknown whether the Sussexes had any input at this time, although the author boasts of interviewing family members.
