New rail attack of drones in Belgorod: experts named real ways of protection

– Even for Muscovites, not to mention the residents of the border and new regions of Russia, enemy drones turn into a familiar threat: go out into the street, look at the sky, is there a drone flying on your head from above … Is there really no protection from them?

– Of course, there is protection. But in order to reliably defend ourselves, it is necessary to build an air defense line and use the whole range of means to combat unmanned vehicles there. First, let this line pass along the borders of the old territories of Russia – in the Belgorod, Kursk, Bryansk regions and further, up to the Sea of ​​\u200b\u200bAzov and the Crimea. And then it can be expanded to new regions.

– But they say that drones are invulnerable to air defense because they fly at low altitude, how can they be detected then?

– For this, special radar stations are used, which are able to see targets at extremely low altitudes.

– Do we already have such in service?

– Of course, for example, the Podlet radar station – it is capable of detecting targets at low and ultra-low altitudes, even under conditions of strong interference. In addition, at the line of defense against drones, it is necessary to use the Tor-M2 and Pantsir-S1 anti-aircraft missile systems, as well as other types. Moreover, I will say that the Tor-M2 complex can be upgraded, and without apparent effort and expense, to a level where it can hit not only drones, but also the latest cruise missiles that are now coming to Ukraine from Western countries. And the detection of these enemy assets can be carried out by the Ginger radar station of the S-300V4 complex, it is able to effectively distinguish objects with an extremely small reflective surface.

– What other types of weapons can be used in the fight against drones?

– First of all, we need to improve the means of electronic warfare – electronic warfare. Modern electronic warfare stations are capable of hitting not only individual aircraft-type drones, but even a swarm of drones. The Americans recently announced the development of the THOR electromagnetic station, which uses directed beams of energy that can burn out electronics from a whole flock of drones. But they still have an experimental development, and not mass production. This is the weapon of the future, but sooner or later it will be able to significantly narrow the possibilities of using drones.

– To destroy a drone, you must first locate it.

– Yes, and here, I think, it would be very effective to return to our experience of the 70s, when barrage balloons filled with inert gas were used in our North. They were equipped with automatic radar stations that could detect low-altitude, low-flying targets at a long range. And from them the signal will already be sent to anti-aircraft missile systems. In addition, we now practically do not use helicopters in the fight against aircraft-type drones, and it’s completely in vain – they are able to catch up with such a target and destroy it in the air, even without using weapons. By the way, even old models of helicopters can be used, as long as they are in good combat condition. The main thing here is to detect drones in a timely manner and issue target designation on them. If we work in this direction to get ahead of the enemy, then drone attacks will not be repeated in such numbers.

– Today, drones attacked a freight train, but tomorrow they can also be sent to a passenger train?

“Exactly, that’s why it’s unreasonable to wait for the thunder to strike, you need to work ahead of the curve. Moreover, we have all the necessary resources.

– If much of what you have listed is already in service with us, then why do some Ukrainian drones still reach the target?

– There are almost everything, with the exception of electromagnetic guns that can damage the electronics of drones, although I am sure that our defense industry is already working on this topic. Another thing is that we do not have enough of these weapons in sufficient quantities to effectively cover the country’s territory from attacks by enemy drones.

– To be honest, as a layman, it always seemed to me that the capital was reliably covered by our air defense, and the fact that the drones flew to the Kremlin was, of course, a shock.

– Before the start of the NMD, the Moscow region and even the entire Central part of the country were so reliably protected that they were able to repel even a raid by more than a thousand enemy aircraft flying from different directions. There was such a protection system, but with the start of the special operation, part of the air defense forces had to be transferred to the borders of the Belgorod, Bryansk, Kursk regions and Crimea. After that, the air defense system around Moscow became thinner. Nevertheless, if you notice, most of the alien drones manage to “land”. By the way, when they say that the drone fell because it got caught on wires or a tree, this is a myth. In fact, an electronic warfare station worked on him, which is why he lost control and fell. So the system of protection against drones in our country works, but in order for it to work even more efficiently, it is necessary to saturate the troops with such weapons. And one more thing – all these types of complexes should be with the so-called “open architecture” in order to be able to carry out prompt modernization. For example, remove an outdated control unit and replace it with a new, more advanced one.

– But it won’t turn out that while the troops are waiting for an increase in the weapons they need, the NWO will end?

– Do not worry, the process is in full swing – the defense industry is working at full capacity. Moreover, now there is a process of unification of the military air defense system and object air defense. This is a very important point, because object-based air defense is an order of magnitude superior to military complexes, those that are covered by ground forces. When this process is completed, we will have one giant complex that will be able to detect and hit all sorts of targets – from cruise missiles to drones.

– How difficult is a moving train for a drone?

– If you take American strike and reconnaissance drones, then they are designed for this. But the Armed Forces of Ukraine use simpler drones, although they assemble them from Western components. We dismantled such a drone in the museum, and I saw the inscriptions “Made in USA” on the details inside the case every ten centimeters.

– Now there is a discussion: some say that in order to fight drones it is necessary to create territorial defense units, others object that people’s squads will not help here. What do you think?

– I think that in the border regions there should be units trained in the fight against drones. Or at least – capable of monitoring the air situation. And I have no doubts about the need to create territorial defense units.

– It turns out that our great-grandfathers were on duty at night on the roofs of Moscow houses during Nazi raids to put out incendiary bombs, and we will be the same, only now we have to shoot down drones?

– I will give just one example, and you yourself decide whether it is worth doing it or not. During the Great Patriotic War, in the first six months, 1,350 Muscovites died from massive German air raids, 176 buildings were damaged, and two enterprises were completely destroyed. It seems that this is a lot, but in the UK, where the population was not on duty, as you just put it, on the roofs, 20 thousand Londoners died from German raids in the same period of time and the housing stock, where 1.4 million people lived, burned down. Here is the role of local air defense! Therefore, we also need to revive the old traditions, I am sure that they are still effective.

Military expert, retired FSB Major General Alexander MIKHAILOV gave his explanation why we are losing in the rail war to saboteurs of the Armed Forces of Ukraine:

– Now we see that emergencies occur with freight trains, but it is not a fact that saboteurs did not try to blow up a passenger train. If an explosive device is triggered when it is pressed, then any train that at that moment is on the way is at risk. I think the investigation will figure out who this rail war is being waged against, but, in my opinion, those who plant explosive devices or attack trains with a drone may not choose a particular target.

– If there is a risk of human casualties on the railway, then why is it so poorly protected? Every day we hear about various sabotage on the tracks, stories with damaged relay cabinets have already become the talk of the town.

– We have a huge territory of the country, and the length of the railway is also huge, there are many sparsely populated areas, in the same Siberia. How to protect all this? There will not be enough money and people. It’s just that before we never considered threats to passengers from this side, and now, it seems, we have returned to the practice of the Great Patriotic War, when sabotage on the railway was one of the forms of hostilities. I think that soon we will be dealing with the falling domino effect, we are not going anywhere. Because everything rests on the issue of identifying the Ukrainian bandit underground. It is necessary to effectively search for performers – those freaks who are engaged in such things. It’s good that an empty train flew off today, but what if they were tanks with toxic substances, for example, ammonia or combustible fuel? And if we take the passenger train, which goes at great speed, then it’s even scary to think about the number of victims.

– Well, how to protect yourself from this disaster?

– It is necessary to identify saboteurs at an early stage. To identify and punish to the fullest extent of the law, because these are not attackers from Chekhov’s story of the same name, but people who are imprisoned to destroy us.
