The head of the faction of the New People party, Alexey Nechaev, introduced a bill to the State Duma, which proposes to enshrine the concept of “parents’ meeting” in legislation. The project, in particular, proposes to give the parents’ meeting certain powers, for example, in matters of drawing up students’ menus, abolishing requirements for their clothing and prohibiting the dismissal of teachers, RIA Novosti reports.
The explanatory note states that the bill proposes to amend the federal law “On Education in the Russian Federation”. If the project is adopted, parent meetings will also be able to determine the organization of extracurricular activities for students, as well as decide on the termination of contracts with food suppliers to the school.
It is proposed to include the parents of all students of a general education institution in the composition of the parent meeting. Decisions must be made by a majority vote of the members of the meeting, the explanatory note says.
