“New People” proposed to educate schoolchildren about the dangers of the “culture of denunciation”

The “New People” faction proposes to supplement the school history course with a study of the consequences of denunciations in the USSR and the world. Deputy Speaker of the State Duma Vladislav Davankov sent a corresponding appeal to the Minister of Education Sergei Kravtsov (Kommersant has the appeal). According to the parliamentarian, historical education about the dangers of denunciation among the younger generation will make it possible to counteract the widespread “destructive culture.”

In his address, Mr. Davankov gives examples from the history of the USSR during the 1930s, when “mass denunciations became part of the system of political control and repressive policies of the USSR and contributed to the spread of an atmosphere of fear and suspicion in society.” The politician also recalled the relevance of the problem of denunciations during the period of “McCarthyism” in the United States.

As Mr. Davankov emphasized, many denunciations were false and based on personal and selfish motives or envy, which led to the persecution of innocent people. According to the politician, building media popularity through denunciations of other citizens is now becoming increasingly common. Moreover, the “culture of denunciations” takes a lot of resources from government agencies in the process of processing them.

“I ask you, dear Sergei Sergeevich, to consider the initiative to include in the extended history course topics aimed at a more thorough study of the history of denunciations in the USSR and the world and their consequences for society. If there is support, I ask you to instruct the relevant departments of the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation and teams of authors to implement it,” said Mr. Davankov.

Previously, “New People” have repeatedly raised question about the problem of denunciation in Russia. So, last year, Vladislav Davankov proposed calling the initiative on compulsory work for “serial informers” in honor of the head of the Safe Internet League “Mizulina’s law.” The reason was Ekaterina Mizulina’s calls to call on blogger Danila Milokhin, who came to Moscow, to serve in the armed forces, which, according to Mr. Davankov, “scared away thousands of Russians from returning.”
