“New People” introduced a bill banning approaching a person

A bill banning approaching a person at a certain distance has been submitted to the State Duma for consideration. Its authors were deputies of the New People party Vladislav Davankov, Sardana Avksentyeva and Ksenia Goryacheva, it is said in card in the parliament’s electronic database.

“Now the court can prohibit the stalker from calling a certain person, sending him emails or paper letters. But at the same time, there is no norm that would prohibit approaching and communicating in person,” explained Mr. Davankov (quoted from “Rossiyskaya Gazeta”).

Sardana Avksentieva also noted that the legislation does not provide for liability for the persecution of a person and “stalking”. Ms. Goryacheva added that victims are forced to “change jobs or cities of residence” and “many people will feel calmer when they feel that the law is really on their side.”

It is proposed to make changes to the Civil Code. A ban on approaching a specific person and making other contacts with him may be issued by a court if there are sufficient grounds.

The day before, a package of amendments to the law “On the elections of the President of the Russian Federation” was also introduced to the State Duma. Many of them are similar to the changes that were previously made to the law on elections of deputies and guarantees of voting rights.
