The “New People” faction asks to again consider amendments that increase the minimum threshold for alimony in the amount of 50% of the subsistence level per child (7 thousand rubles). In addition, the party proposes to consider extending the period of participation in the program for obtaining housing for young families. About it reported Deputy from “New People” Ksenia Goryacheva. According to her, these are more effective measures to support the birth rate than a ban on abortion.

“Banning abortion is often proposed as a tool to improve demographics. But from a statistical point of view, this makes no sense. Over the past 40 years, in no country in the world has a ban on abortion helped to increase the birth rate… Abortion is always a consequence. But you need to work with the reasons,” wrote Ksenia Goryacheva in Telegram.

According to Ksenia Goryacheva, instead of banning abortions, it is better to improve the financial support of single mothers. “In fact, the current version of Art. 81 of the Family Code is based on the interests of the parent who pays child support, but not the child, much less the parent with whom the child lives,” she said at a meeting in the State Duma.

“It will be easier for a woman to decide to have a child if she is sure that in any case she will share responsibility with the father,” she added.

In addition, the faction proposed creating a separate subprogram for young families to obtain housing and increasing the period of participation in it by five years after parents reach the age of 35, if they have been on the waiting list for housing for more than five years. These amendments were introduced to the State Duma back in the spring, but the government did not support the initiative of the “New People”. According to Ksenia Goryacheva, the proposal received the support of regional authorities and Deputy Prime Minister Tatyana Golikova, but, nevertheless, this “is not the first time that this issue has been put on the agenda.”

According to research National Research University Higher School of Economics, the average amount of alimony in Russia is 10.1 thousand rubles. Despite this, 40% of families receive alimony in the amount of 5 thousand rubles. The average cost of living in the country is 13.9 thousand rubles.

At the same time, 13% of children who are entitled to alimony do not receive these payments, it follows from the data Rosstat. According to information bailiff servicesin 2022, 1.6 million court decisions on the collection of alimony in the amount of 233 million rubles were in development.
