The head of the Ministry of Education, Sergei Kravtsov, said that developments on new school history textbooks would be presented in January-February 2023. So far, it is planned to create a line of textbooks for grades 5-6. According to the minister, these textbooks will include chapters about the military operation in Ukraine, referendums in four new regions, as well as sanctions from Western countries.
“This textbook will not be created from scratch, but on the basis of those textbooks that already exist, but taking into account the historical events that took place this year: the start of a special military operation, the entry into the Russian Federation of the Luhansk and Donetsk People’s Republics, Zaporozhye and Kherson regions, unprecedented sanctions pressure. These facts will be reflected in the new textbook,” said Mr. Kravtsov (quoted by TASS).
As the head of the Ministry of Education said, it will take about a year to work on a new textbook. At the same time, textbooks will be presented in two versions: basic and in-depth. They will be the same for all schools. The working group on the creation of new textbooks was headed by ex-Minister of Culture Vladimir Medinsky.
Vladimir Putin spoke with the initiative to create a single line of textbooks on the history of the country for secondary school students back in 2013. In 2020, a law introduced by the president was adopted, which notes that education should be aimed at developing “a sense of patriotism and citizenship, respect for the memory of the defenders of the Fatherland and the exploits of the heroes of the Fatherland.”
