Professor of the Department of Neurology of the First St. Petersburg State Medical University. I.P. Pavlova Igor Voznyuk told “Gazeta.Ru”, why in adulthood it is not as easy to master new skills as in childhood.
Wozniuk noted that after the age of 20, the human brain matures enough to continue deepening previously mastered skills, rather than taking on new ones.
However, this does not mean that adults are completely hopeless: with sufficient motivation, the brain can learn new skills using the neural networks it already has for learning.
According to the professor, in adulthood a person can learn new skills just as well as in his youth, but more rationally: for this, the brain uses already developed patterns.
