Nenets Autonomous Okrug prepares to hold mass ski race “Northern Lights”

This year the competition will be held from March 30 to April 2 at the ski base of the Trud Olympic Reserve Sports School. Several groups of participants are allowed to participate in the competition, according to the portal of state bodies of the NAO.
The first group is athletes, men and women not older than 1983, boys and girls not older than 2003, men and women (veterans) born in 1982–1963, and also born in 1962 and older. The second group – representatives of organizations and enterprises of municipalities of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug. The third group is teams of preschool education organizations, teams of general educational organizations and vocational education organizations of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug in the age groups listed in the Regulations. The Northern Lights ski racing sports festival was founded by Ivan Iosifovich Chuprov (1927–1996), a legendary athlete, the author of the sports classification for national sports of the RSFSR. In 1969, with the aim of mass involvement of the inhabitants of the Nenets Autonomous Okrug in physical culture and sports, Ivan Chuprov developed the rules and held the first sports festival “Northern Lights” in the district capital. Subsequently, sports games became annual, and since 1999 they bear his name.
