– Nelli Mikhailovna, tonight is dedicated to fashion, and I, of course, cannot help but ask if you have a large dressing room?
– I don’t have it at all. (Laughs.) All my life I dreamed of a large dressing room, but so far my dream has not come true. We have a house in which we have been living for 50 years, it was built by German prisoners of war. Then there was no such fashion – to build separate rooms for dressing rooms. So with difficulty, but I find my things.
– Is going to the store torture or joy for you?
– Joy, of course. I’m a shopaholic. Within reasonable limits, I can spend a large amount. The last time it was two years ago, it’s just impossible to buy what I want now.
— Is it because fashion brands left Russia?
No, I just don’t like styles. Moreover, brands are completely unimportant for me, the main thing for me is that the suit fits beautifully, that it is elegant and impresses me.
– Do you have anything left of Joseph Kobzon’s things?
“No, there is nothing left. I gave them to friends, colleagues, Alexander Vasiliev, for example, I gave Joseph Davydovich’s suit, my dress. And he’s got it on display there, I believe, in his house.
– In addition to Vasiliev, who else is the happy owner of clothes from Nelly Kobzon?
— I send things in boxes to orphanages. I saw these girls: they are so beautiful, happy when they have some kind of joy in life. And I realized that these things, which I no longer wear and which are labeled or in good condition, must be given to these children. Then the director of the orphanage called me and thanked me so much. And I’m also happy if I can do something good.
– The other day was the anniversary of Vyacheslav Zaitsev. I know you worked with him too…
– Yes, when I worked as a presenter with my husband, Vyacheslav Mikhailovich Zaitsev sewed costumes for me. They were in folk country style – very bright, beautiful. When we came to Latin America on tour, everyone was delighted. I had kokoshniks, crinoline dresses – it was amazing. I then gave these outfits to one ensemble, they took them for performances and swirled – I don’t have them. But the memory of these outfits is wonderful. In general, we were friends with Vyacheslav Mikhailovich: we went on tour together, spent time, talked with his family. We knew his son, daughter and first wife.
– Now you somehow keep in touch?
– Now age takes its toll, of course. But when we see each other, we are very happy.
– I know that in fact you don’t have much free time, what are you mostly busy with now?
— We help especially gifted children, musicians from dysfunctional families, buy them instruments.
– Besides work, what do you like to do?
I like to go to the cinema, to the theater, I meet with friends. I am generally a very cheerful person. There are so many interesting things around.
– I know that it is very important for you to preserve the memory of Joseph Kobzon …
— My daughter and I are collecting a book of memoirs of his friends. When he passed away, we turned to famous people: artists, politicians, doctors, athletes, and many wrote wonderful essays and stories about him. I can say that, fortunately, people have not forgotten the work of Joseph Davydovich and himself. I hear so many compliments about him even just from strangers. And it makes me very warm…
