The US authorities and their allies are a source of threats to peace and security, said Russia’s permanent representative to the UN Vasily Nebenzya at a meeting of the UN Security Council on North Korea
He accused the initiators of the meeting of hypocrisy and an attempt to build up pressure on Pyongyang and divert attention from the reckless escalation actions of Washington and its allies in the region, which are the real source of threats to international peace and security.
“Russia has consistently opposed any military activity that poses a threat to the security of the Korean Peninsula and neighboring countries. Washington and Tokyo, together with Seoul, regularly escalate the situation around the peninsula,” he said.
Nebenzya also noted that the pressure on Pyongyang is not limited to purely military activity.
“The platform of the UN Security Council is also being used. Another confirmation of this was the convening last week of an absolutely meaningless meeting on human rights in the DPRK from a practical point of view. In order to advance their partisan agenda, the initiators of the event ignored the mandate of the Council, which is not authorized to deal with human rights issues,” he said.
