Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vasily Nebenzya spoke about expectations from the high-level UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine with the participation of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky.
The meeting is booked for September 20.
“We realistically assess the output from this meeting, as well as from other politicized Western initiatives on the Ukrainian crisis,” said the Russian permanent representative. According to Nebenzi, “he’s obviously a zero.”
According to the diplomat, “this will be another “show” in which the main role is assigned to the Ukrainian president.”
This is how Vasily Nebenzya answered the question whether the Russian Federation will take part in the UN Security Council meeting on Ukraine, in which Zelensky is planned to participate, and at what level.
Nebenzya also added that for Zelensky, “the role of a comedian on stage is, of course, familiar.” However, Russia, “as the founding state of the UN, is sad to observe that, through the efforts of… Western colleagues, the high platform of this organization is used for self-PR, if not to say hypocrisy.”
He also said that “blinded by the desire to punish and “suppress” Russia,” delegations of Western countries “now see the UN Security Council exclusively as a platform for their “PR campaigns.” At the same time, they are absolutely not concerned about the established practice of the UN Security Council, nor the substantive side of the discussions, nor the authority of this body, the permanent representative believes.
