NATO plans to hold the largest post-Cold War exercise in its history in 2024, said the head of the alliance’s Military Committee, Admiral Rob Bauer. writes TASS.
The exercise will be called Steadfast Defender, which means “Stead Defender” in English. The head of the committee added that more than 40,000 people will take part in the events, which will take place in Germany, Poland and the Baltic countries.
About the alliance’s plans to conduct large-scale exercises in Europe reported Financial Times newspaper September 11. It was noted that the events could take place in February-March next year and would include from 500 to 700 combat air sorties and maneuvers of more than 50 ships.
According to the newspaper, the purpose of the exercise is to repel possible “Russian aggression directed against one of the alliance member countries.”
In June in Germany passed Air Defender 23, the largest air force deployment exercise in the history of the bloc. Then about 10,000 people from 25 countries took part in the events.
