Nebenzya: Russia will not allow the world to forget about the sabotage at Nord Streams

Western countries are playing for time so that the world will forget about the sabotage on the Nord Streams, but Russia will not allow this. This statement was made by the Permanent Representative of the Russian Federation to the UN Vasily Nebenzya.

“The more they remain silent about their investigation into the Nord Stream terrorist attack, the more indicative the situation becomes in terms of the intentions of Western states to stretch out time in order to force the international community to forget this story. However, the Russian Federation will not allow this,” he said (quote according to TASS).

The diplomat promised to make efforts to ensure that the UN Security Council continues to address this issue and that the terrorist attack on the pipelines is “properly investigated.”

He also expressed concern that a year after the attack, “no concrete information about the investigation” has yet been provided. Nebenzya drew attention to the different approaches to the proceedings on Nord Stream and Balticconnector.

On November 8, the UN Security Council held a closed meeting on the topic of sabotage on the Nord Streams, which occurred in September 2022. The meeting took place at the request of the Russian side.

On September 26, 2022, the Nord Stream and Nord Stream 2 gas pipelines, which pass through the Baltic Sea, were damaged as a result of sabotage. Russian President Vladimir Putin blamed the West for sabotage. In October 2022, Sweden announced the completion of the investigation, but did not name those responsible for the incident. The Kremlin has repeatedly called for an independent investigation and for Russia to be allowed into it.

American journalist Seymour Hersh stated about involvement in the bombing of US gas pipelines. At the same time, a number of Western media claimed that evidence points to the involvement of criminals associated with Ukraine in the sabotage. For the first time about a certain “pro-Ukrainian group” reported The New York Times in March 2023. At the same time, Die Zeit stated that a Ukrainian ship on which traces of explosives were found could have been involved in the sabotage. Kremlin doubted in these data and called the messages “coordinated stuffing.”
