Russia has developed an alternative draft resolution in the UN Security Council on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, Russia’s permanent representative to the organization Vasily Nebenzya said at meeting Security Council.
“We have prepared an alternative draft resolution, drawn up on the basis of proven humanitarian language and incorporating important elements from the American, Brazilian and the first Russian draft,” Nebenzya said in (quote according to TASS).
According to him, Russia cannot support the American draft UN Security Council resolution on the Middle East. Moscow is asking that the Russian draft be put to a vote immediately after the document prepared by the United States.
The UN Security Council is working on a resolution on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict. Today he is considering the version of the document proposed by the United States. Previously, Moscow presented its version of the resolution, but on October 9, at a meeting, France, Great Britain, Japan and the United States spoke out against the Russian draft resolution calling for a ceasefire. Another six states abstained. Later Nebenzya reportedthat this vote showed who really wants a truce and who is pursuing political goals.
Brazil also proposed a draft resolution, but the United States vetoed it because the document did not mention Israel’s right to self-defense.
On the morning of October 7, the Gaza-based Palestinian group Hamas attacked Israel. The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) responded by launching Operation Iron Swords, striking hundreds of Hamas targets in the Gaza Strip. The government of the Jewish state announced that the country had entered a state of war. According to the latest data, about 6,500 people were killed as a result of the fighting.
