Nearly 70% of French people regret Macron’s re-election

A majority (69%) of French people expressed regret that Emmanuel Macron won the French presidential election last year and remained in office for a second term, should from the results of a survey commissioned by BFM TV.

Most of the respondents believe that the re-election of Macron was a bad event for France, last year this opinion was expressed by 55% of respondents. 30% called his victory a positive development.

When asked what words are associated with Macron’s activities, respondents most often named disagreement (44%), anger (39%) and hostility (26%). The survey was conducted on April 22-24 among 1002 people over 18 years old.

The second round of the presidential elections in France took place in April 2022, when Macron won 58.5% of the vote, and the opposition candidate Marine Le Pen – 41.5%.

On April 22, the French trade union CGT Energie, which includes energy workers, promised Hold protests for up to 100 days, during which power may be cut off for major international events such as the Cannes Film Festival.

Mass protests in France began after residents learned of the authorities’ intention to raise the retirement age, clashes between demonstrators and police continue to this day. In mid-March, French Prime Minister Elisabeth Born announced the adoption of a law raising the country’s retirement age from 62 to 64 years. This happened without a final vote in the lower house of parliament. Due to the risk of not getting the required number of votes in the lower house of parliament, Macron approved the use of Art. 49.3 of the constitution, which allows the adoption of a law without the approval of parliament.
