Moscow says goodbye to Queen Elizabeth quietly and calmly. “Let this not be our history, but for me English traditions are an indicator of how to live,” one of the guys shared with slight envy at the British Embassy, ​​where people bring flowers for the second day. Mostly young people gathered here. And the older generation lined up on the opposite side and grumbled: why worship the West.

Muscovites have been carrying flowers, candles and postcards to the British Embassy since Thursday. Hundreds of people came to honor the memory of Queen Elizabeth. A spontaneous memorial (where, for some reason, a bottle of beer and a lighter were brought along with postcards and flowers) was organized at the entrance to the consular and visa department from the side of Protochny Lane.

“Today is a historical moment, I want to touch it,” the young man explained his presence. – Despite the fact that we are not very close with England now, I think it is necessary to show respect. In addition, I know the history of the royal family well. I always dreamed of becoming a historian, but eventually entered the Transport Institute. I am studying economics. In our country, a historian is a hopeless profession.

A mother and daughter passed by. The child is five years old.

“Mom, look how everyone is laying beautiful flowers, but we only bought one rose,” the girl whimpered.

“We don’t have any more money,” the woman explained and turned to me. – Tell me where the English flag is, something is not visible from here, I wanted to show the child.

People walked towards the embassy in an endless stream. Some quickly laid flowers and left. Others lingered, filmed videos, or simply stood silently.

“It turns out that so many Russians are not indifferent to the queen, who, in fact, is completely alien to us,” the embassy guard thought. – Yesterday the people went, today they come all day. True, it seems to me that young people are more likely to take photos against the background of their own bouquets.

A black Mercedes pulled up in front of us.

– And what happened? the driver shouted. Who is being buried?

“Queen,” replied the policeman.

– They give, – the man grinned and gave gas.

Two Uzbek women ran past with buckets and brooms. Didn’t hold back. Photographed against the backdrop of flowers. One philosophically remarked: “So many people came, so it is great after all.”

I sat down on concrete railings. Next to me are two girls.

– An interesting historical event, we will tell our grandchildren later, – one reasoned. – Elizabeth, it seemed, always was, is and will be. Estimate how many people were born and died under it. She has been on the throne for seventy years. We rarely live up to seventy.

About a hundred people laid flowers in two hours. Among those present were schoolchildren, students, pregnant women, ladies with dogs, people came with their whole families.

There were also enough young bloggers.

“We arrived at the British Embassy, ​​I have one percent charge left, so I’ll tell you everything quickly,” the guy chattered at the camera.

While they were mourning near the embassy, ​​a small opposing camp was formed on the opposite side, consisting of three pensioners. I approached them.

– Well, look what’s going on. Is it right? the man grumbled. “The English hate us, but our youth worship them. Shame.

– Young people are now stupid, uneducated, they are all drawn to the West. Look at them, whether a guy or a girl is standing, you can’t make out, ”one of the pensioners nodded in the direction of a young man with a ponytail. – Well, nothing, life will re-educate.

– If it were my will, I would have called the police and dispersed all this gathering, – the man could not restrain himself.

I asked the old people if they knew the history of the royal family.

– And why should we know this, they are not ours …

At this time, a tall blonde in black trousers and a jumper came out of the embassy building.
