Nature Communications: Manicure lamps cause skin cancer

A group of American scientists from the University of California at San Diego and the University of Pittsburgh found that the glow of ultraviolet lamps for manicure can damage human DNA. Study published in the scientific journal Nature Communications.
Despite the fact that scientists knew that ultraviolet light can cause skin cancer, the researchers did not know how radiation affects the human body at the molecular and cellular level.
An experiment in which mouse and human cells were placed under the light of a manicure lamp showed that 20-30% of the elements of organisms die during the first 20 minutes of irradiation, while the remaining particles either damage DNA or mutate, leading to the development of skin cancer.
It is important to note that 20 minutes under a UV lamp is an exaggerated model of a life situation. In fact, during the manicure, the fingers are under the light of the lamp for no more than ten minutes.
The results of the study do not refute, but do not entirely blame ultraviolet radiation for causing cancer cells. Longitudinal epidemiological studies are needed to assess real risk and can take up to ten years to complete.
