Natural population decline in the Russian Federation in 2023 decreased by 19.3%

Natural population decline (the excess of the number of deaths over the number of births) in Russia in January-November 2023 decreased by 19.3% compared to the same period in 2022. Such data was provided on Friday, January 19, by the Federal State Statistics Service (Rosstat).

As the department clarifies, during this period this figure amounted to 438.3 thousand people compared to 543.4 thousand people a year earlier.

During the same period, 3% fewer children were born – 1.1624 million. 8.1% fewer Russians died – 1.6007 million people.

Earlier, Russian leader Vladimir Putin said that strengthening the family and saving the people of Russia is the priority of the Russian authorities for generations to come.
