Ukraine has nothing to look forward to in terms of joining NATO at the organization’s July summit, writes Foreign Policy columnist Anchal Vohra.

She wrote that, according to Foreign Policy, Kyiv will not only not receive an invitation to join the alliance, but the terms of its possible entry will also not be announced.

The observer notes that NATO is afraid of the risk of escalation in the confrontation with Russia, and therefore will be very careful.

“Among the countries of the bloc, including even some of the Baltic states, there is a broad consensus to delay the invitation to full membership,” she wrote.

Earlier, the Ukrainian Foreign Ministry stated that Kyiv would not be satisfied with any other decision of the NATO summit in Vilnius, scheduled for July 11-12, except for an invitation to join the alliance.

Earlier, Ukrainian Defense Minister Oleksiy Reznikov said that the creation of the Ukraine-NATO Council would allow Kyiv to actually become a member of the alliance. He expressed hope that at the NATO summit in Vilnius in July, Ukraine will already participate in the status of a member of the Ukraine-NATO Council. According to him, in this case, Ukrainian diplomats will allegedly be able to participate in the work of some subcommittees, as well as bring issues for discussion.
