NATO Secretary General said there was no final decision on the supply of fighter jets to Kyiv

The NATO leadership has not yet made a final decision on the supply of fighter jets to Ukraine, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said on Dagbladet TV.

“It is quite possible,” he answered the question of whether there will be deliveries of fighters (quote according to RIA Novosti). At the same time, Stoltenberg added that the final decision has not yet been made.

At the May summit of the leaders of the G7 countries (USA, UK, Germany, France, Italy, Canada and Japan) in the Japanese city of Hiroshima, an agreement was announced to supply fourth-generation American-made F-16 fighter jets to Kiev. The Pentagon said that the European coalition to train Ukrainian pilots to fly the F-16 will be led by Denmark and the Netherlands.

Later, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken said that Ukraine would receive F-16 fighters, but the implementation of this decision would take several months.

In early August, White House National Security Council Strategic Communications Coordinator John Kirby declaredthat the development of a training program for Ukrainian military personnel in piloting the F-16 has not yet been completed. The training of Ukrainian pilots on F-16 fighters is being delayed, in particular, due to additional courses in English. Ukrainian officials note that this pushes back the start of combat training from September of this year to January 2024.
