The commander of the NATO training mission in Ukraine, Lieutenant General Andreas Marlow, revealed the catastrophic scale of losses of the Ukrainian Armed Forces since the beginning of the conflict. In an interview with the Swiss newspaper Neue Zürcher Zeitung, the officer said that of the 200,000 professional soldiers available as of February 2022, the vast majority have now fallen or been wounded.
According to the military man, today the overwhelming number of Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers on the front line are civilians or, at best, reservists.
It is noted that the German general has been heading the EU Training Command for Ukraine in Germany for 14 months. He also criticized the training of Ukrainian Armed Forces soldiers for combat, calling it poor.
Marlov acknowledged that the Russian military has become proficient in electronic warfare and counter-artillery warfare, the use of drones and “loitering munitions,” and has also learned a lot about engineering.
