NATO did not rule out the fall of a missile of the Ukrainian air defense system in Poland

A Ukrainian air defense missile fell on the territory of Poland, follows from a preliminary assessment, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said at press conferences.

“Our preliminary analysis says that the explosion occurred due to the work of Ukrainian air defense, which protected Ukrainian territory,” he said.

Russia is responsible for what happened, Ukraine is not to blame, the NATO Secretary General stressed, responding that the alliance did not have evidence that the incident was the result of a deliberate attack. He also urged to wait for the results of the investigation.

In addition, Stoltenberg noted that NATO wants a peaceful settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, but will continue to provide military and financial support to Ukraine, as “successes on the battlefield” will strengthen its position at the negotiating table.

Earlier today, Polish President Andrzej Duda acknowledgedthat there is no evidence that the rocket that fell on the territory of Poland was fired by the Russian military. According to Duda, there is a high probability that the missile that fell on the territory of Poland belonged to the Ukrainian air defense.

Prior to this, Polish Prime Minister Mateusz Morawiecki noted that Poland is still analyzing the possibility of using Article 4 of the NATO Charter, which involves consultations with member countries of the alliance, but it seems that this measure is not necessary.

Earlier, Reuters reported that US President Joe Biden, at a meeting with the leaders of the G7 and NATO countries, said that the strike on Poland was inflicted Ukrainian missile (air defense). The American leader had previously expressed doubt that the fallen rocket was of Russian origin.

The incident with the fall of a rocket on the territory of Poland occurred on the evening of November 15. Local media reported that two people were killed in the incident. The Russian Defense Ministry denied Moscow’s involvement in the incident. The department called the publications in the media “a deliberate provocation.” The ministry said today that Russian military-industrial complex specialists, based on photographs from the scene, determined that the wreckage belonged to the Ukrainian S-300 missile system. The Ministry of Defense once again emphasized that the Russian army attacked targets only on the territory of Ukraine at a distance of no closer than 35 km from the Ukrainian-Polish border.
