On Monday, October 17, 14 Western nations will begin the Steadfast Noon nuclear deterrent exercise. They involve up to 60 aircraft, including the most modern fighters and American B-52 Stratofortress strategic bombers.
As specified in the alliance, the exercises will be deployed in the north-west of Europe – in the airspace over Belgium and Britain, as well as over the North Sea. It is emphasized that military weapons will not be used. According to the Belgian television channel RTBF, none of the NATO aircraft participating in the exercise will approach Russian territory closer than 1,000 km.
