The North Atlantic Alliance on Wednesday, January 24, announced the start of its largest exercise in recent memory, Steadfast Defender 2024.
As NATO spokesman Dylan White said on social networks, the maneuvers began with the American ship Gunston Hall, which set sail.
About 90 thousand military personnel will be involved in the exercises in the Atlantic and Europe. The maneuver scenario involves practicing actions in the event of an attack from an enemy of comparable strength.
Earlier, NATO Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said that NATO is seeking to prevent the threat of full-scale hostilities between the military-political bloc and the Russian Federation. To achieve this, the alliance is increasing investments in defense, as well as conducts new exercises.
Minsk has already managed to convict NATO of violations in connection with the exercises. The Belarusian Ministry of Defense noted that the alliance countries intend to attract 90 thousand military personnel to the Steadfast Defender exercises, while Belarus did not receive any invitation notifications in this regard, which is a violation Vienna Document on Confidence and Security Building Measures.
