Nationwide mourning has begun in Russia for those killed in Crocus City Hall

In Russia, March 24 is a day of national mourning for those killed in the terrorist attack in the Crocus City Hall near Moscow. More than 130 people were killed, and more than 140 were injured. The day before, on March 23, mourning was announced by President Vladimir Putin.

On the day of national mourning, flags will be flown at half-mast. Cultural institutions are recommended to cancel entertainment events.

Federal museums will hold a minute of silence. TV channels will change broadcasting network: entertainment programs and advertising will be removed from it. Moscow theaters and concert venues are canceling events planned for March 23 and 24. Museums continue to open for admission, but without public events. Sporting events have been postponed, including the friendly match of the Russian national team against Paraguay, which was scheduled for March 25.

Spontaneous memorials have sprung up in Russian cities, with people bringing flowers to them. Commemorative events have been taking place in cities since Saturday. Some regions declared mourning at their level. In some of them it will last three days.

Abroad, people bring flowers to Russian embassies. Some countries also declared national mourning as a sign of solidarity with Russia.

Mourning has been declared for the 30th time in the modern history of Russia. The last time mourning was associated with the death of more than 60 people in a fire in the Kemerovo shopping and entertainment center “Winter Cherry” in 2018.
