National guards may be banned from posting information about themselves on the Internet and in the media

The personnel of the Russian Guard may be prohibited from posting information about themselves, their colleagues, including former colleagues, and members of their families on the Internet and the media. Such amendments were made to the draft law on the specifics of recruiting the troops of the Russian Guard.

According to the amendments, the National Guard will be prohibited from publishing information, including videos and photographs, with the help of which it will be possible to establish the location of the National Guard fighters and belonging to the troops. In addition, the amendments propose to establish a ban on the disclosure of official activities.

The author of the draft law on the specifics of serving in the National Guard is the chairman of the State Duma Committee on Information Policy Alexander Khinshtein, the document was submitted to the lower house of parliament on April 18, adopted in the first reading on June 14. State Duma deputies will consider the bill in the second reading on July 20. The date for consideration of the document in the third reading has not yet been set, follows from the Duma’s electronic database.

According to the text of the explanatory note, the bill proposes to equalize the position of military personnel and employees with special police ranks, and begin to apply uniform legal approaches to them. These measures “will make it possible to additionally attract professionally trained personnel to the National Guard, as well as retain in the service persons with combat experience and relevant skills.”

In his Telegram channel Khinshtein explainedthat the amendments made are also aimed at equalizing the position of military personnel and employees of the National Guard. He noted that this ban is spelled out in the law “On the status of a serviceman” and applies to all servicemen, including those serving in the National Guard. However, this measure does not apply to OMON or SOBR. The amendment proposes to eliminate “double approaches”.
