How a Russian publishing house participates in the New School project and helps build modern education

What do book publishers have in common with repairs? This is the goal of giving the country’s children equal learning opportunities, which includes the overhaul of schools, modern equipment for them, and, of course, educational materials. We discussed how the Prosveshchenie publishing house participates in the implementation of state programs in the field of education and why a modern school library is not just shelves with books, we discussed with its development director.

– Natalya Vasilievna, what role does your company play in the New School project?

– For many years we have been a partner of the state in the implementation of educational policy, providing systematic methodological support to educational organizations. One of the key tasks of the people’s project “New School” is to update the school infrastructure and create comfortable conditions for all participants in educational relations. Schools are being built and renovated in all regions, and this is a good time for a radical renewal of the educational environment. And this is where we see our role: not only to provide the school with all the necessary educational and methodological literature and equipment, but also to design the entire space of the school so that every meter “works” for the development of each child.





– How do you see the modern school?

– We work based on the understanding that the modern educational space is no longer the same classroom with desks and a blackboard that we have become accustomed to over the centuries. These are bright, multifunctional, easily transformable educational spaces for different educational tasks: classrooms, laboratories, atriums, amphitheatres, recreations, “sharpened” for the active work of children and being centers of attraction for school life.

One of these centers, in our opinion, today should be the school library, which is now rightfully called the information and library center, where information should be provided not only on paper, but also from any sources, using audio and video content, technologies of virtual and augmented reality. And again, this space should be zoned, transformable and multifunctional, which has all the possibilities both for independent work of each user and for holding various group classes and events.





But creating such an environment is not all, it will not work on its own if the teacher does not use all of its components. Therefore, a serious block of our work is connected with teaching teachers new methods and technologies for working with the entire range of teaching aids and resources that are in their arsenal today.
